Code of Conduct for Parents at Sporting Events

Purpose: To promote a positive and supportive environment for all participants in youth sports, including players, coaches, officials, and fellow spectators.

1. Show Respect:

  • Treat all participants with respect, including players, coaches, officials, and other parents.

  • Recognize that everyone involved is contributing to the sporting experience.

2. Encourage Positive Behavior:

  • Cheer for your team and acknowledge good plays by both teams.

  • Encourage players to do their best, regardless of the outcome of the game.

3. Support the Coaches:

  • Respect the authority of the coaches and their decisions during the game.

  • Understand that coaches are volunteers and are there to help the players learn and enjoy the sport.

4. Promote Sportsmanship:

  • Model good sportsmanship for your child and others.

  • Celebrate wins graciously and accept losses with dignity.

5. Avoid Negative Comments:

  • Refrain from yelling at or criticizing officials, coaches, or players.

  • Keep all comments positive and supportive, both during the game and afterward.

6. Respect Game Officials:

  • Understand that officials are essential to the game and deserve respect.

  • Do not engage in confrontations with officials; address any concerns through appropriate channels after the event.

7. Be Mindful of Your Influence:

  • Remember that your behavior sets an example for your child and other young athletes.

  • Encourage your child to focus on effort, teamwork, and personal improvement.

8. Communicate Effectively:

  • Discuss any concerns or issues with coaches privately, and at appropriate times, rather than during or immediately after games.

  • Use appropriate channels for communication and feedback.

9. Follow Venue Rules:

  • Adhere to all facility rules and regulations, including any specific guidelines set by the organization or league.

  • Ensure that your actions do not disrupt the event or compromise the safety of others.

10. Promote a Safe Environment:

Consequences of Misconduct:

Failure to adhere to this code of conduct may result in a warning, removal from the event, or further disciplinary actions as determined by the organization.
